Morocco is taking another step toward sustainable tourism with the approval of 11 new eco-friendly projects under the Go Siyaha program. This initiative, part of the country’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, aims to help hotels and other hospitality businesses transition to greener practices. With a total investment of 23 million dirhams, including 7 million dirhams in subsidies, the program highlights Morocco’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its tourism sector.

The newly approved projects will provide funding to classified tourist accommodations, enabling them to adopt eco-friendly solutions such as solar panel installations and energy efficiency improvements. These upgrades are designed to lower carbon emissions and make tourism infrastructure more resilient to environmental challenges. The investment amounts vary significantly depending on the type of establishment, from 130,000 dirhams for a first-category guesthouse to nearly 10 million dirhams for a large hotel club. The program also ensures a balanced geographical distribution, with projects spanning cities like Dakhla, Berkane, Casablanca, Azilal, Tangier, Khénifra, Sefrou, M’diq, Errachidia, and Marrakech.

Since its inception, Go Siyaha – Green Growth has already supported 24 sustainable equipment projects, representing a total investment of 58 million dirhams, including 20 million dirhams in subsidies. Additionally, over 100 technical assistance initiatives have been carried out, with a 12 million dirham budget, 90% of which was covered by the program.

The initiative is built on two key components. The investment segment finances up to 40% of the cost of energy-efficient equipment, water conservation technologies, and waste management improvements. It also promotes the use of renewable energy by subsidizing solar panel installations, thermal insulation, and low-energy lighting. Meanwhile, the technical assistance component covers up to 90% of the expenses for energy audits and feasibility studies, guiding businesses toward recognized environmental certifications.

With this latest wave of approvals, Go Siyaha continues to play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable future for Moroccan tourism.
