Casablanca Sud is ramping up efforts to secure a reliable supply of drinking water, with one of its most significant initiatives being its connection to OCP Green Water. Since October 2024, this project has been producing 60 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually, covering more than a quarter of the city’s needs. Completed in record time, it represents an innovative and sustainable response to the growing water crisis.

Located at the OCP site in Jorf Lasfar, OCP Green Water relies on cutting-edge infrastructure, including a desalination plant, a pumping station, and a 54.5-kilometer pipeline linking the facility to the Daourate dam. The project quickly ramped up from an initial production capacity of 20 million cubic meters per year in October 2024 to 60 million by the end of December, ensuring a more stable and long-term water supply for thousands of households.

Beyond securing water access, the initiative also stands out for its strong environmental commitment. It incorporates an innovative seawater recycling system that enhances resource management, reducing the strain on groundwater reserves and freshwater sources. This strategy is part of a broader shift toward unconventional water solutions—an urgent necessity in the face of climate change and increasing resource scarcity.

Already supplying drinking water to Safi and El Jadida, OCP Green Water is cementing its role as a key player in Morocco’s water management efforts. But its ambitions go even further: with an installed desalination capacity of 185 million cubic meters in 2024, the target is to reach 280 million cubic meters in 2025 and an impressive 560 million by 2027. In the coming years, additional cities—including Khouribga, Youssoufia, Benguerir, and Marrakech—will also benefit from this expanding infrastructure.

As Morocco grapples with the challenges of climate change and mounting pressure on natural resources, this project marks a strategic turning point. By combining technological innovation, rapid execution, and environmental responsibility, OCP Green Water is setting new benchmarks for water management and shaping a future-oriented vision for the country.
