Morocco is currently a pioneer in the field of public-private partnerships (PPP) for irrigation and seawater desalination, stated Mohamed Sadiki, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, during the “Resilience Days in Morocco” forum held in Salé on Tuesday.
In his opening remarks, Minister Sadiki highlighted the success of flagship projects like the El Guerdane PPP, implemented in 2009 to preserve a 10,000-hectare citrus farming area, and the Chtouka PPP, completed in 2022 for the irrigation of 15,000 hectares using desalinated seawater. These projects are now considered international benchmarks.
