Morocco set to regulate remote work with upcoming labor code reform

Morocco is preparing to introduce a major update to its labor code, with a new chapter specifically dedicated to remote work. The proposed reform, currently in development, aims to provide a legal framework for a practice that has seen rapid growth in recent years. The new regulations are expected to be adopted by this fall.

The announcement was made in Casablanca during a forum focused on the changing dynamics of the labor market. At the heart of the discussion was the growing impact of new technologies—especially artificial intelligence—which officials now see more as an economic driver than a threat to employment. The forthcoming legislation is intended to adapt to these shifts and offer clarity for both employers and workers in an increasingly digital professional environment.

Alongside this reform, the government is prioritizing the modernization of vocational training. One initiative underway is the creation of an AI-driven observatory designed to anticipate future labor market needs and better guide young people in their career paths. A key component of the plan also involves updating the recognition of professional certifications to better reflect the demands of the current economy.

The conference also emphasized the crucial role of the private sector, which is being encouraged to work more closely with public institutions to foster local innovation and support the creation of sustainable jobs.
