The National Airports Office (ONDA) is launching an ambitious transformation with its new strategic roadmap, “Airports 2030.” This large-scale initiative aims to elevate Morocco’s airport infrastructure to the highest international standards, reinforcing the country’s position as a key global aviation hub. Driven by Royal Directives issued during the Ministerial Council on December 4, 2024, this program is designed to modernize Moroccan aviation, boost innovation, and enhance competitiveness.
Through “Airports 2030,” ONDA is carrying out a complete overhaul of the national airport sector, focusing on three major areas: the expansion and modernization of infrastructure, the reinvention of the passenger experience, and the restructuring of ONDA’s institutional framework. The plan is designed to accommodate growing air traffic, support Morocco’s economic and tourism development, and prepare the country’s airports for major global events, particularly the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
One of the key elements of this transformation is the expansion of airport capacity. Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport will see its capacity increase from 14 million to 35 million passengers by 2029, positioning it as a crucial intercontinental hub connecting Africa with Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Other major airports, including those in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fès, will also undergo significant expansions to double their capacities and improve passenger flow.
Beyond infrastructure, ONDA is revolutionizing the traveler experience by integrating advanced digital solutions and smart technologies. Moroccan airports are set to become fully connected spaces where every stage of the journey, from check-in to boarding, will be optimized. Automated check-in, biometric border controls, and real-time digital services will enhance efficiency and convenience for passengers.
“Airports 2030” also introduces a structural evolution for ONDA itself. The agency is shifting toward a new legal status, potentially transitioning into a joint-stock company to increase its agility and financial competitiveness. This change aims to strengthen governance, streamline airport management, and attract international investment.
The human factor is at the heart of this transformation. ONDA is investing in continuous training programs to upskill airport staff, modernizing work methodologies, and adopting the best international practices in aviation management. By fostering innovation and operational excellence, Moroccan airports are set to compete with the world’s most advanced hubs.
Security and border control efficiency will also be key priorities. ONDA is collaborating with national security forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Customs Administration, and government ministries to reinforce airport security while ensuring smooth customs and immigration procedures. In parallel, a new visual identity will soon be introduced to reflect Morocco’s renewed ambition in aviation and international mobility.
“Our airports of tomorrow will reflect a Morocco that is open, ambitious, and welcoming, offering world-class standards while preserving our legendary hospitality,” said Adel El Fakir, Director General of ONDA. “From airspace management to terminal expansion, from runways to boarding gates, every element of the airport ecosystem is being reimagined to provide an unprecedented level of efficiency and comfort for travelers.”
With “Airports 2030,” Morocco is setting the foundation to become a leading global aviation hub, strategically positioned at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and beyond. This transformation is not just about infrastructure; it is about redefining the way people experience air travel in Morocco and strengthening the country’s role as a world-class destination for business and tourism.
