Morocco’s high-speed train, Al Boraq, is now recognized as one of the fastest trains in the world, reaching a top speed of 357 km/h. According to a ranking compiled by Statista, Al Boraq secures the 7th position, in a list dominated by Chinese trains.
China holds the top three spots with the Shanghai Maglev, currently the fastest train globally at 460 km/h, followed by the CR Harmony and CR Fuxing, both reaching 350 km/h. While Al Boraq is slightly faster, cruising at 320 km/h, it remains a significant achievement for Morocco in the global rail industry.
Launched by the ONCF in 2018, Al Boraq connects Casablanca and Tangier with stops in Rabat and Kenitra. Its impressive speed and efficiency have led to growing popularity, with 5.2 million passengers transported in 2023, generating a revenue of 702 million MAD.
Morocco’s railway infrastructure has seen major advancements in recent years, including the acquisition of new locomotives and expansion into strategic cities like Marrakech, Khouribga, Casablanca, Rabat, and Tangier. These developments have positioned Morocco as a leader in rail transportation within Africa and have improved connectivity across the country.
