Morocco’s tourism sector continues to soar, with foreign currency earnings reaching 59.4 billion dirhams (MMDH) during the first seven months of 2024, as announced by Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, on Thursday in Rabat.
Presenting the summer season’s results at the weekly Government Council meeting, Ammor highlighted that these revenues represent a 3.5% growth compared to the same period in 2023—an increase of 2 billion dirhams. The report was relayed by Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, during a press briefing.
Tourist arrivals also saw a significant surge. A total of 4.4 million tourists visited Morocco in July and August alone, marking a 21% rise compared to the same period last year. Overall, a record 11.8 million visitors arrived in Morocco by the end of August 2024, which is 1.6 million more than the figures for August 2023.
These impressive numbers reflect the acceleration of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, launched by the government in March 2023. This strategy focuses on enhancing air connectivity and strengthening marketing efforts, leading to a 30% increase in air transport capacity compared to 2023.
