The National Office of Railways (ONCF) has announced a call for tenders to conduct preliminary project studies for a new railway line linking the city of Oued Zem to the province of Béni Mellal. This strategic move aims to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development.
The scope of these studies includes doubling and rectifying the track between Khouribga and Oued Zem, as well as designing the necessary structures to replace level crossings between Sidi el Aidi and Oued Zem. Details of the tender, published on the ONCF website, indicate an estimated budget of 38 million dirhams for these preliminary studies, with bids opening in Rabat on September 19th.
This initiative follows a recent meeting between Khatib El Hebil, the Wali of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, and the Director-General of ONCF. The discussion focused on various aspects of the proposed railway line that will eventually connect Béni Mellal to Casablanca, passing through Khouribga.
A flagship project for the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, this railway line is expected to bring significant socio-economic benefits. It will not only enhance mobility for the region’s residents but also play a crucial role in reducing travel times to major cities like Casablanca and Rabat. By improving accessibility and fostering economic growth, the new railway link is set to transform the region’s connectivity and development landscape.
