Oncorad brings CyberKnife to Morocco in major cancer care breakthrough

Oncorad Group has equipped its medical facilities with one of the most advanced cancer treatment technologies in the world: the CyberKnife system. This cutting-edge robotic radiotherapy device delivers pinpoint accuracy in targeting tumors, all without the need for invasive surgery.

At the heart of the system is a flexible robotic arm integrated with state-of-the-art imaging technology, enabling sub-millimeter precision. This allows clinicians to focus radiation on cancerous tissues while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy cells. The result is a treatment that’s not only safer but also significantly better tolerated by patients.

What sets the CyberKnife apart is its real-time tumor tracking capability. It can monitor and adapt to the natural movement of tumors, including those that shift with breathing. This feature is especially critical for treating cancers located near moving organs—such as the lungs and liver-where traditional radiotherapy struggles to maintain accuracy.

Because of its unmatched precision, the CyberKnife also supports a technique known as hypofractionation. This approach reduces the number of treatment sessions required, enhancing both patient comfort and therapeutic outcomes. Unlike conventional radiotherapy systems that require rigid immobilization, this technology adjusts to the patient’s anatomy in real time, making each session less stressful and more tolerable.

With the introduction of the CyberKnife, Morocco joins an exclusive group of African nations offering this technology. Until now, only Kenya had such a system operational, with a third unit currently being installed in Algeria.

Founded in 2000 by Professor Redouane Samlali and Dr. Omar Hajji, Oncorad Group has consistently pushed the boundaries of cancer care in Morocco. The group follows a multidisciplinary model that blends imaging, oncology, robotic surgery, and advanced medical technologies through its three main branches: Littoral Clinic, Oceanic Clinic, and Vital Radiology.
