Orange Maroc has taken a bold new step in cementing its position as a technological trailblazer, unveiling its new Cable Landing Station in Nador on December 15. This strategic development marks the Moroccan arrival point of the Medusa submarine cable—the longest ever laid in the Mediterranean—and underscores Morocco’s growing influence in global digital connectivity. By linking North Africa directly to Europe, the project significantly strengthens the nation’s digital sovereignty at a time when control over data infrastructure is more critical than ever.

Spanning 8,700 kilometers and connecting 18 landing points across both sides of the Mediterranean, the Medusa cable brings a massive boost in bandwidth capacity, reaching up to 20 terabits per second. It creates a highly resilient data route between continents, capable of supporting the skyrocketing demand for high-speed internet and global data exchange. Orange Maroc’s decision to anchor the cable in Nador further integrates the country into international digital networks. The operator constructed a state-of-the-art, 3,500-square-meter landing station in record time, designed from the outset as a secure and open hub for future growth.

Fully designed and operated by Orange Maroc, the facility stands out with its 140 kW IT capacity and scalable architecture. It is built to accommodate additional submarine cables and serve as a hosting point for major technology partners. By opening the station to all telecom operators, Orange Maroc is positioning Nador as a major digital crossroads for the region.

The project also showcases the global expertise of the Orange Group. Orange Marine, using its cutting-edge cable ship, handled the undersea installation, while Elettra Tlc led the engineering and marine operations. With a portfolio of over 40 global cable projects, the group brings unmatched technical know-how to the table, reinforcing the professionalism behind every stage of the Medusa deployment.

Far from a one-off achievement, this project is part of a long-term vision. Over the past 25 years, Orange Maroc has invested more than 100 billion dirhams into Morocco’s digital infrastructure. This commitment reflects a broader strategy that blends technological innovation with digital inclusion and national digital sovereignty. The company’s ambitions are visible in the ongoing rollout of 5G, the development of the Orange Tech Data Center, initiatives in artificial intelligence, and concrete efforts toward energy transition.

By connecting Morocco to the most extensive undersea cable system in the Mediterranean, Orange Maroc isn’t just expanding bandwidth—it’s building the infrastructure that will support the country’s digital future. The company continues to play a central role in the transformation of Morocco’s digital landscape, staying true to its mission as a trusted partner in shaping the Morocco of tomorrow.
