The seventh edition of the “Affordable Fish” initiative is making waves across Morocco, providing high-quality seafood at competitive prices. Since its launch on February 22, 2025, the program has already distributed 2,150 tons of frozen fish, ensuring that Moroccan families have access to essential seafood products during the holy month of Ramadan.

With demand surging, organizers plan to release more than 4,000 tons of fish by the end of the initiative. The program has also expanded to over 40 cities, reaching major hubs like Casablanca, Fès, Marrakech, Agadir, and Dakhla, as well as smaller towns such as Ouarzazate and Béni Mellal. Mobile caravans are also playing a key role in bringing fish to remote areas, ensuring that as many citizens as possible can benefit from the initiative.

Pricing starts at just 17 dirhams per kilogram, a major advantage for families facing increased food expenses during Ramadan. The initiative has drawn large crowds, with some distribution points seeing as many as 400 customers per day. Trust in the program continues to grow, thanks in part to strict food safety and freshness checks carried out by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA).

To further streamline access, the initiative has expanded its distribution network through partnerships with major retail chains. Frozen fish is now available in 780 BIM stores, 183 Label’Vie supermarkets, and six Super U locations across Casablanca and Rabat, making it even easier for consumers to purchase affordable seafood.

Despite its success, the program faces challenges due to unstable weather conditions affecting fishing operations at several ports. Strong winds and waves exceeding five meters have disrupted activity, particularly along the coastline from Tangier to Essaouira, forcing fishermen to adjust their routes for safety reasons.

To maintain a steady supply, organizers are ramping up coordination with industry stakeholders, ensuring that distribution remains smooth throughout Ramadan. This initiative continues to play a crucial role in supporting Moroccan households, making seafood more accessible while helping families manage their budgets during this important time of year.
