A public library in Rabat is set to get new digital services, self-service machines and robots under a 10m dirham deal with a Saudi technology company. Naseej for Technology signed the 10.02m dirham ($1m) contract on Tuesday through its Moroccan subsidiary. Rabat Région Aménagement (RRA) is the client. The 26-month project is part of the “Rabat, City of Light, Moroccan Capital of Culture” programme.
Naseej will install its Medad library platform to manage books, digital resources and other library services.
Readers will be able to borrow and return books using self-service machines. They will also be able to register for library services without staff help and access some resources remotely.
Robots will help visitors find books and other documents. They will also answer questions and guide people around the library.
The project will use RFID technology to track books and other materials. Staff will have handheld scanners to check the library’s collections and monitor the movement of books.
Naseej expects the contract to have a positive impact on its financial results in 2026, 2027 and 2028.
The Saudi company was founded in 1989 and specialises in technology for libraries, education, archives and document management. It has been listed on the Saudi Exchange since 2022.
Rabat is the UNESCO World Book Capital for 2026. The city has been investing in libraries, reading spaces and digital access as part of its cultural programme.
