Royal Air Maroc has announced new direct flights between Morocco and Spain as it expands its services in the Iberian Peninsula.
The airline will start direct flights from Tetouan to Barcelona, Málaga and Madrid. Tangier will also get three regular flights to the same Spanish cities. A new route will link Nador with Barcelona. The announcement was made in Madrid.
These routes come after earlier plans to launch Casablanca–Bilbao and Casablanca–Alicante flights. The airline now serves nine airports in Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, Seville, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Bilbao and Alicante. It flies from five Moroccan cities: Casablanca, Laâyoune, Tangier, Tétouan and Nador. There are more than 80 flights a week between the two countries.
The company said the new routes are part of its plan to offer more direct flights between cities. It wants to improve links between major Moroccan cities, especially in the north, and key European markets. Spain is one of its main markets.
In 2025, nearly 480,000 passengers travelled between Morocco and Spain on the airline’s flights. The company said demand is growing because of tourism, business travel and the Moroccan and African communities living abroad.
The expansion also strengthens Casablanca as a main hub. Passengers from Spanish cities can easily connect to flights to Africa, the Americas and the Middle East.
Spain remains one of the airline’s most important European markets. Its regional office is based in Madrid and covers Andalusia, Catalonia and the Canary Islands.
Founded in 1957, Royal Air Maroc is in a new growth phase under a 2023–2037 agreement with the Moroccan government. It plans to increase its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037 and carry up to 32 million passengers a year. It also plans to open more than 100 new international destinations.
The airline has launched a tender to buy 188 aircraft. By the end of 2026, its fleet is expected to grow from 62 to 72 planes. It has recently added Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
