Moroccan defender Romain Saiss has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a long spell with the national team.
The 35-year-old confirmed the news in a message to fans, saying it was a decision taken after careful thought.
He wrote: “Today, I close the most beautiful chapter of my life as a footballer. After deep reflection, it is with immense emotion that I announce my retirement from international football.”

Saiss made his debut in November 2012 under coach Rachid Taoussi and went on to become a key player in defence. He earned 86 caps and scored three goals.
One of the highlights of his career was the 2022 World Cup in Doha, where Morocco reached the semi-finals, the first African team to do so.
In his message, Saiss thanked his teammates, coaches, medical staff and supporters.
“Thank you to you, Moroccan supporters. Your unconditional support is the engine that pushes us to surpass ourselves match after match,” he wrote.
He also paid tribute to King Mohammed VI and praised the progress made in Moroccan football.
Saiss said he would now support the team from the stands. He will continue his club career with Al Sadd SC in Qatar.
