Special Olympics Morocco (SOM) is set to host the 2025 Regional Games, a major sporting event dedicated to promoting inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Spanning four key cities across Morocco, the event will provide hundreds of athletes with a unique platform to showcase their talents while delivering a powerful message of solidarity and equality.
These games align with the vision of King Mohammed VI, who has made inclusion and equal opportunities central to Morocco’s social development. By increasing initiatives that encourage adaptive sports, Special Olympics Morocco continues to strengthen its commitment to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities. “Sports are a powerful engine of integration and personal fulfillment. Through these Games, we aim to give every athlete a chance to reach their full potential, build connections, and fully embrace the sporting experience,” said Mrs. Larhrib, National Director of Special Olympics Morocco.
The competitions will kick off in Tangier from February 19 to 21, bringing together over 300 athletes. The Games will then move to Fez from April 8 to 10, followed by Guelmim from May 14 to 16, before concluding with a grand finale in Casablanca from May 21 to 23. Each host city will provide athletes with a competitive yet supportive environment, highlighting their determination, progress, and achievements.
Beyond the competition, the Regional Games will serve as a qualifying stage for the upcoming National Games, where selected athletes will earn the opportunity to represent Morocco on the international stage. By involving sports associations, institutions, and the general public, Special Olympics Morocco aims to raise awareness about intellectual disabilities and position sports as a catalyst for social change.
The organization calls on all stakeholders to support this initiative, making the 2025 Regional Games a symbol of inclusion, perseverance, and empowerment.
