During a meeting held on Friday by the UN Security Council to discuss the latest developments in Libya, the Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations, the ambassador Taher El Sonni, highlighted the important role played by Morocco in resolving the conflict in the country.

“I would like to thank Morocco for its ongoing efforts and for hosting Libyan political parties on many occasions to provide an environment conducive to the achievement of a political settlement,” El Sonni stressed.

Having hosted meetings that led to the negotiation and signing of the Libyan Political Agreement of Skhirat, Morocco has hosted the inter-Libyan talks in the cities of Bouznika and Tangier and continues to receive for consultation, regularly, Libyan political leaders who find in the Kingdom a brotherly neighbor and a credible speaker, with a sole objective to achieve peace, stability and development of Libya, under the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution next week on the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
