A group of staff working for members of the US Congress visited Dakhla on Wednesday to learn about the region’s economy, investment opportunities and major development projects. The delegation included political, economic and legislative advisers. They met Ali Khalil, Wali of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region and Governor of Oued Eddahab Province, along with Regional Council President Yanja El Khattat.

The meetings focused on the region’s biggest development projects, the sectors driving its economy and ways Morocco and the United States can expand economic cooperation. Officials also presented Dakhla as Morocco’s gateway to Africa.

“It offers an opportunity to present the delegation with the region’s investment opportunities and economic potential, while exploring ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries,” El Khattat said.

The Regional Council and the Regional Investment Centre (CRI) also gave presentations on key projects in renewable energy, agriculture and tourism.

El Khattat said he hopes the visit will “help strengthen Moroccan American economic relations and open new prospects for cooperation and investment.”

Fayçal Sahmani, Acting Director General of the Regional Investment Centre, said the visit shows the interest of US congressional staff in the region’s economy.

“The delegation was informed about the investment opportunities offered by the region, as well as the efforts being made to strengthen its economic attractiveness,” he said.

The delegation also visited the construction site of Dakhla Atlantique Port, where officials gave an update on the progress of the project. The visitors later toured several well-known sites across the city.
