The volume of overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments (EHTC) in Morocco reached nearly 10.5 million during the first five months of 2024, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Observatory of Tourism.
These overnight stays are divided between domestic tourism, which saw a slight decrease of 3% to 2.8 million nights, and international tourism, which surged by 13% to 7.7 million nights. The data, detailed in a document by the Observatory, highlights tourism statistics for Morocco as of May 2024. Marrakech led the way with approximately 4 million overnight stays, followed by Agadir with 2.37 million, and Casablanca with 842,542 nights.
In May alone, EHTC recorded nearly 2.6 million overnight stays, a 13% increase compared to May of the previous year. This includes an 18% rise in international tourism and a 3% increase in domestic tourism. The Observatory also noted a 15% rise in tourist arrivals at border posts, surpassing 5.9 million people by the end of May.
