Cement deliveries in Morocco have reached a remarkable 11.12 million tons by the end of October 2024, marking an 8.24% increase compared to the same period last year, reports the Association Professionnelle des Cimentiers (APC). This growth reflects the continued momentum in Morocco’s construction sector, which spans residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
In October alone, cement sales surged to 1.3 million tons, a robust 19.74% jump from 1.08 million tons in October 2023, underscoring the sector’s strength. The APC, representing industry leaders such as Asment Témara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc, LafargeHolcim Maroc, and Novacim, attributes this uptick to high demand across various construction segments.
Breaking down the numbers, cement deliveries for distribution—a crucial driver of market demand—reached 6.45 million tons, followed by 2.44 million tons supplied to the ready-mix concrete (BPE) segment. The prefabricated concrete (PREFA) segment accounted for another 1.07 million tons, with the building sector consuming 360,932 tons, infrastructure projects 722,773 tons, and mortars 54,623 tons.
The cement industry’s growth is a positive indicator of Morocco’s vibrant construction landscape, which has been benefiting from steady investments in housing and large-scale infrastructure projects. These include road, bridge, and other public infrastructure developments, which not only create jobs but also stimulate demand for construction materials. The cement sector’s performance, led by major players within the APC, is well-positioned to support Morocco’s evolving urban landscape and contribute to its long-term economic growth.
With cement being a cornerstone of both small- and large-scale construction, the industry’s expansion signals a promising outlook for Morocco’s continued urban and economic development. The steady increase in cement demand highlights the resilience of the building sector, with the APC expecting growth to continue as Morocco pursues its infrastructure and urbanization goals.
