Morocco is taking bold steps to solidify its position as a global air travel hub. Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh announced plans for a groundbreaking project: the construction of a new international airport in Casablanca. Named Mohammed V Airport, like its predecessor, this cutting-edge infrastructure is designed to enhance Morocco’s strategic role in global aviation.

The future airport is set to accommodate over 20 million passengers annually, with facilities capable of handling long-haul flights of up to 15 hours. This ambitious project aligns with the growth strategy of Royal Air Maroc, which aims to expand its fleet fivefold, reaching 250 aircraft by 2033. Casablanca aspires to become a pivotal hub connecting Africa with Europe, the Americas, and beyond, cementing its status as a gateway between continents.

While the idea of a new Casablanca airport has been circulating for years, recent developments breathe new life into the vision. Architectural sketches and futuristic designs have sporadically appeared on social media, fueling public anticipation, though their official origins remain unverified. Initial projections suggest the airport could become operational by 2030, promising to be one of the largest and most modern infrastructures in the world.

While awaiting the new facility’s completion, substantial investments are being funneled into upgrading the existing Mohammed V Airport. Recent enhancements include an ultramodern transit area equipped with advanced security technologies and 11 additional check-in points. This upgrade allows the current airport to manage an extra 2 million passengers per year, significantly easing traffic congestion.

This new airport is more than just an infrastructure project—it represents Morocco’s determination to lead in international connectivity. Casablanca’s enhanced role as a global air hub underscores the nation’s commitment to modernization and economic vitality. Beyond serving travelers, the new Mohammed V Airport will stand as a symbol of Morocco’s forward-thinking vision and dynamic growth.
