A new player has officially entered Morocco’s automotive scene. On Wednesday, May 7, Comicom—an affiliate of the Safari Group—announced the national debut of the Chinese carmaker BAIC. Known for already distributing Mahindra vehicles, Comicom is now expanding its portfolio by betting on a rising brand that’s gaining traction on the global stage.
To mark its launch, BAIC is introducing four models to Moroccan drivers: three SUVs—the X35, X55, and X7—and a compact sedan, the U5 Plus. With prices ranging from 179,000 to 325,000 dirhams, the lineup aims to strike a balance between affordability, comfort, and high-tech features. The offerings are generous for their class, boasting panoramic sunroofs, 360-degree cameras, fully digital instrument clusters, ventilated leather seats, advanced driver assistance systems, and built-in connectivity.
Comicom is already laying down the foundations of a national dealership network. Showrooms are up and running in Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Kénitra, and Oujda, with new locations on the way in Rabat, Tangier, Fez, and Meknes. On the service side, the company pledges to meet BAIC’s international standards, equipping its workshops with the tools for advanced diagnostics and training its technicians specifically for the brand’s lineup.
This move reflects a broader shift in Morocco’s auto market, where Asian manufacturers are becoming an increasingly dominant force. For the Safari Group, which employs more than 4,200 people and generated over 9 billion dirhams in revenue last year, this partnership signals a clear intent: to refresh its automotive offerings and stay in step with the evolving expectations of Moroccan consumers.
