From April 3 to 6, 2025, Casablanca will host the third edition of the Education Through Sport Summit in Africa, an initiative led by Tibu Africa in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, UNESCO, and TAFISA. Bringing together over 5,000 participants and 100 international experts, the summit aims to position sports as a key driver of social and economic transformation across the continent.

Under the theme “Driving Systemic Change with Experts and Development Actors Through Sport,” the event will serve as a platform for meaningful exchanges and concrete action. It will highlight the role of sports in education, professional integration, and social cohesion while encouraging policymakers, institutions, and economic stakeholders to strengthen its presence in public policies.

Through conferences, training workshops, and strategic meetings, the summit will showcase innovative models that promote education and social inclusion through sports. The Social Innovation Fair will spotlight impactful projects demonstrating how sports can drive lasting change.

Mohamed Amine Zariat, President of Tibu Africa and Ashoka Fellow, underscores the significance of this edition: “The Education Through Sport Summit in Africa acts as a true catalyst for social transformation. By bringing together experts, field practitioners, and decision-makers, we create a synergy capable of generating lasting impact and inspiring initiatives that will benefit future generations.”

For UNESCO, the summit reflects the essential role of sports in reducing inequalities and expanding opportunities for African youth. Eric Falt, Director of UNESCO’s Regional Office for the Maghreb, emphasizes this point: “Sports are not just about performance. When integrated into educational and social policies, they become a powerful engine for transformation.”

The official opening plenary on April 3 will feature discussions between experts and policymakers to lay the groundwork for structural actions promoting inclusive and accessible sports. The event will also see the announcement of new collaborations aimed at strengthening Africa’s sports ecosystem.

Thematic workshops will explore key topics such as increasing girls’ participation in sports, the impact of sports-related careers on social and economic progress, and the role of digitalization as an accelerator of transformation.

The summit will conclude with the #Run4Peace solidarity race, a symbolic initiative showcasing the power of sports to unite people around values of peace and inclusion.

By placing sports at the heart of educational and social policies, this gathering seeks to translate ideas into concrete actions for sustainable and inclusive development. It represents another step toward a well-structured African sports ecosystem that creates opportunities and drives positive change for future generations.
