In a solemn address broadcast on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, during the 8:30 PM news on Al Aoula, HM King Mohammed VI called on the Moroccan people to exceptionally forgo the ritual sacrifice of Eid al-Adha this year. The royal message was delivered by Ahmed Toufiq, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

HM the King began by underscoring the religious importance of this tradition, noting that while it is a well-established practice in Islam, it is considered a “confirmed Sunnah”—a recommended act to be observed when circumstances allow. In other words, although deeply rooted in faith and culture, the sacrifice is not an absolute obligation if economic or material conditions make it difficult.

This year, the situation is particularly challenging. Successive droughts have led to a severe shortage of livestock, driving prices to levels that impose a heavy financial burden on many Moroccan families.
