M2T (Maroc Traitement de Transactions), the payment subsidiary of the Banque Centrale Populaire Group, has won the Best Network Expansion award at the Franchise Exhibition Morocco 2026.

The recognition comes as the company marks 25 years of operations focused on financial and social inclusion.

M2T operates more than 7,000 proximity points across Morocco through its brands Chaabi Cash and Tasshilat, making it one of the country’s largest territorial payment networks.

Over the past quarter-century, the company has evolved from a transaction processor into a broader financial services provider. It says its strategy centres on economic autonomy and digital inclusion, supported by its mobile wallet Chaabi Pay and a range of alternative financial products.

Company leaders dedicated the award to employees, partners and customers, and thanked the organisers of the exhibition for providing a platform connecting franchisors, entrepreneurs and investors.

Role within the BCP Group

M2T is a core part of the Banque Centrale Populaire Group’s digital strategy. While the bank focuses on traditional services, M2T delivers last-mile financial access through a franchise-style network that brings banking-adjacent services to people without standard bank accounts.

Dual-brand growth strategy

The company’s expansion relies on two main brands.

Tasshilat began as a multi-service payment network allowing customers to pay utility bills and taxes through neighbourhood shops rather than government offices.

Chaabi Cash specialises in money transfers and instant financial services, including domestic and international remittances.

Shift to a “phygital” model

M2T is increasingly combining physical presence with digital tools. Its mobile wallet Chaabi Pay enables transfers, QR code merchant payments and access to micro-insurance and micro-credit services.

This strategy aligns with Bank Al-Maghrib’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, which aims to reduce reliance on cash.

Industry trends

The award reflects wider changes in Morocco’s payments and franchise sectors.

Service franchises with lower entry costs are attracting young entrepreneurs, with payment corners becoming common additions to small shops.

Earlier in 2026, M2T also won the Best Innovative Mobile Solution prize at the Africa Pay & ID Expo (APIDE Awards), highlighting its role in Morocco’s growing fintech sector.

Competition is intensifying from rivals including Cash Plus and Damane Cash. The industry is moving towards interoperability so customers can pay across different networks regardless of provider.

In February 2026, the African Development Bank awarded a $510,000 grant to Morocco’s Electronic Payments Acceptance Development Fund to help equip small merchants with digital payment terminals, supporting the continued expansion of networks such as M2T’s.
