A major shift is taking place at Maroc Telecom. After more than two decades at the helm, Abdeslam Ahizoune is stepping down as CEO, making way for Mohammed Benchâaboun. The announcement was made on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, during a supervisory board meeting chaired by Finance Minister Nadia Fettah. This marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for Morocco’s leading telecom operator.

The Supervisory Board acknowledged the expiration of the terms of the Executive Board members as of March 1, 2025, and decided to appoint Mohammed BENCHÂABOUN as Chairman of the Executive Board for a two-year term, until March 1, 2027, replacing Abdeslam AHIZOUNE.

Furthermore, the Supervisory Board also decided to renew the mandates of the other Executive Board members—Brahim Boudaoud, Hassan Rachad, François Vitte, and Abdelkader Maamar—for an additional two-year term, extending until March 1, 2027.

Abdeslam Ahizoune is leaving behind a legacy of modernization and expansion, particularly across Africa. His successor, Mohammed Benchâaboun, is no stranger to the industry. A former Minister of Finance and past head of Morocco’s telecommunications regulatory agency (ANRT), he was most recently leading the Mohammed VI Investment Fund.

His return to the telecom sector comes at a pivotal moment, as Maroc Telecom faces rapid digital transformation, intensified competition, and the challenges of emerging technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence.

Under Benchâaboun’s leadership, Maroc Telecom will need to strengthen its position as a global technology player. Key priorities will include modernizing infrastructure, diversifying service offerings, and embracing innovation to maintain its leadership in an evolving market.
