Morocco emerges as a global leader in social welfare reform

Morocco is strengthening its ties with Central Asia! The Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX) announced on Wednesday the launch of a Moroccan Trade Week in Kazakhstan, a key initiative aimed at promoting Moroccan products and fostering long-term economic partnerships with the region’s leading economy.

According to ASMEX, this Trade Week is part of a broader strategy that also includes business missions and B2B meetings, designed to establish direct connections between Moroccan and Kazakh companies.

Despite being largely untapped by Moroccan exporters, Kazakhstan presents significant potential. As a major importer of food products, it offers valuable opportunities for sectors such as agribusiness, cosmetics, handicrafts, and information technology.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Rachid Maaninou, highlighted the growing demand for Moroccan goods, citing traditional pastries as a particularly popular item among Kazakh consumers.

The tourism sector also stands to benefit from enhanced bilateral relations, particularly with the recent visa waiver and ongoing negotiations for a direct flight route between the two countries.

Although Morocco is Kazakhstan’s top African trading partner, trade volumes remain relatively low. In 2023, Moroccan imports from Kazakhstan totaled $250 million, while exports to the Central Asian nation amounted to only $24 million.

To strengthen this trade flow, stakeholders are focusing on increasing imports of wheat, halal beef, electrical equipment, and pharmaceuticals from Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the inaugural “Zoom Country” webinar, ASMEX President Hassan Sentissi El Idrissi reaffirmed the association’s commitment to helping Moroccan businesses expand internationally.

With this initiative, Morocco is taking a major step toward diversifying its trade partnerships, opening new doors in a dynamic and fast-growing region full of economic opportunities.
