Morocco is gearing up for the commercial launch of 5G in November 2025, strategically timed ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will host. This milestone, confirmed by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, marks a major step in Morocco’s digital transformation. It aligns with the broader goals of the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, which envisions nationwide 5G coverage by the end of the decade.

The initial rollout will focus on major urban hubs before gradually expanding to less densely populated areas. Priority will be given to high-impact locations such as industrial zones, university campuses, research centers, and strategic sectors like offshoring, automotive, and aerospace industries. By the end of 2025, the government aims to cover 25% of the population, with that figure rising to 70% by 2030. The ultimate goal is to have full national coverage in place in time for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco is set to co-host.

A key driver behind this push is a strategic agreement signed in late March between telecom giants Maroc Telecom and Wana Corporate (Inwi). The deal is designed to speed up both fiber optic and 5G deployment nationwide through infrastructure sharing. Two joint ventures have been established to carry out this mission: Tower Co, which will focus on building 2,000 new telecom towers within three years—and eventually 6,000 by 2033—and FiberCo, which will be responsible for expanding fiber optic connections directly to homes and businesses.

The introduction of 5G is expected to fuel major advances across a range of sectors. Smart transportation systems will benefit from more efficient traffic management, while smart home technology is poised for accelerated growth. Factories adopting Industry 4.0 practices will see gains in productivity, and essential areas such as agriculture, public services, and administrative digitalization will also receive a significant boost.

Beyond economic and infrastructure development, this rollout is part of a larger plan to enhance Morocco’s international profile ahead of two major sporting events. With the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and the World Cup in 2030 on the horizon, 5G will help deliver high-quality live broadcasts, improve global connectivity, and enable seamless access to high-speed internet and data services for both domestic users and international visitors.
