As part of its ongoing efforts to bolster national defense, Morocco has finalized a major arms deal with the United States, securing the purchase of 25 state-of-the-art F-16V Block 72 fighter jets while also upgrading 23 of its existing F-16C/D aircraft to the latest combat standards.

According to Defense Arabia, the agreement is valued at $4.8 billion and goes far beyond just the delivery of new aircraft. The package includes a full suite of high-precision weaponry and cutting-edge combat technology, marking a significant leap forward in Morocco’s military capabilities.

The newly acquired jets will be equipped with AN/APG-83 AESA radar systems, the advanced Viper Shield AN/ALQ-254(V1) electronic warfare suite, and next-generation mission computers, making the Royal Moroccan Air Force one of the most technologically advanced in the region. These upgrades will give the fleet enhanced abilities in target detection, jamming, self-defense, and interoperability with allied forces.

The deal also includes a comprehensive arsenal of advanced munitions. Among them are AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles, AGM-154 JSOW glide bombs, as well as precision-guided JDAM and Paveway bombs—each designed to offer versatile strike options in complex combat environments.

This move is part of Morocco’s broader defense modernization agenda, aimed at reinforcing its military strength in response to a shifting regional landscape. The agreement also underscores the long-standing military partnership between Rabat and Washington, a relationship that continues to deepen through strategic cooperation and shared security interests.
