A major milestone in African aviation took place today at the Casablanca headquarters of Royal Air Maroc, as the Moroccan national carrier and Mauritania Airlines formalized a strategic partnership set to reshape regional air travel. The two airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding alongside a “free flow” codeshare agreement, focusing initially on the Casablanca-Nouakchott route.

This collaboration is driven by a shared goal: to enhance passenger experience, strengthen regional connectivity, and build a more integrated pan-African aviation network. Travelers flying with either airline will now enjoy greater flexibility, improved coordination, and expanded access to international routes.

“This strategic partnership is a first between Royal Air Maroc and Mauritania Airlines. It’s a significant step forward in our ambition to solidify our presence across Africa while delivering an exceptional travel experience,” said Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc.

That sentiment was echoed by Ahmed Salem Mohamed Vall Ammi, CEO of Mauritania Airlines, who called the agreement a turning point for both companies. He emphasized that the deal paves the way for smoother connections and better service for passengers.

Currently, Royal Air Maroc operates seven weekly flights between Casablanca and Nouakchott. With this new alliance, that frequency will increase to nine direct flights per week for each airline, boosting travel and trade between Morocco and Mauritania.

But the partnership goes well beyond a single route. Four additional destinations—Madrid, Dubai, Paris, and Luanda—will now be included under the codeshare arrangement, accessible through Royal Air Maroc’s key hub in Casablanca. This expansion gives passengers from both carriers a broader range of options across multiple continents.

The cooperation also reaches behind the scenes. Beyond flight operations, the agreement includes joint initiatives in aircraft maintenance, ground handling, staff training, digital innovation, and human resources development. It’s a comprehensive, long-term strategy aligned with Morocco’s South-South cooperation agenda, aimed at creating a stronger, more unified African aviation sector.
