OCP Green Water (OGW), the subsidiary of Morocco’s phosphate giant OCP Group focused on alternative water solutions, has secured a major financial boost with a 6 billion dirham investment—approximately $620 million—provided by the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG) Group.

The funding package, arranged by CDG Capital, brought together several leading institutional investors to back OCP’s large-scale expansion in desalination infrastructure. This move marks a significant step in the group’s long-term sustainability plan, aiming to enhance industrial efficiency while addressing growing water scarcity challenges in the region.

OGW has set an ambitious target: by 2030, it plans to produce 630 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually. That volume would not only meet the OCP Group’s full operational needs for non-traditional water sources but also supply surrounding urban and agricultural areas, playing a crucial role in bolstering local water security.

By turning to capital markets to fund this expansion, OGW gains access to favorable financing terms that will help accelerate growth and strengthen OCP’s independence when it comes to securing vital water resources. With global water shortages becoming more pressing, the initiative underscores how strategic financing can drive sustainable innovation in industrial operations.

The project is closely aligned with CDG Group’s commitment to national water security and responsible resource management. As Morocco faces increasing environmental pressures, such collaborations between public and private institutions are becoming vital to ensure long-term resilience.

Ahmed Znibar, CEO of OGW, emphasized the importance of the deal, calling it “a key milestone in the rollout of our sustainable water strategy,” and highlighting the shared determination with CDG to reinforce Morocco’s water resilience. Mehdi Bouriss, head of CDG Capital, echoed this sentiment, noting that the initiative reflects CDG’s broader mission to support strategic national projects—particularly those focused on securing water supply and promoting sustainability.
