Prince Moulay Rachid attended the final of the 25th Hassan II Tbourida Trophy in Rabat on Sunday, as riders from across Morocco competed in one of the country’s biggest traditional horse riding events. The competition took place at the Royal Complex for Equestrian Sports and Tbourida Dar Es Salam from 15 to 21 June under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
At the end of the event, Prince Moulay Rachid presented medals to the winning teams in the junior and senior categories.
In the junior category, the team led by Moqaddem Zouraizae Badr from Mediouna in the Casablanca-Settat region won gold. The silver medal went to the team of Moqaddem El Khadi Badr Eddine from Youssoufia in the Marrakech-Safi region, while the bronze medal was awarded to the team of Moqaddem El Gazoumi Houssam from Guelmim in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.
In the senior competition, the gold medal went to the team of Moqaddem Telhouni Mohamed-Amine from Settat in the Casablanca-Settat region. The team of Moqaddem El Haloua Abdelhadi from Skhirat-Témara in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region took silver, while the team of Moqaddem El Mehdi Anajar from Marrakech won bronze.
Prince Moulay Rachid later posed for photographs with the winners.
The competing groups, known as sorbas, are judged on how well riders move together, the rhythm of their gallop, their rifle handling, the timing of the ceremonial gunfire, and the quality of their traditional clothing and saddles.
Judges also score riders on their teamwork, communication, control of their horses, and the overall appearance of both rider and horse.
Tbourida, a traditional Moroccan horse riding performance that combines riding skills with ceremonial rifle firing, was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.
