Morocco is bracing for a turbulent start to the week as severe weather conditions take hold across multiple regions. The country’s meteorological authority has issued warnings for powerful winds, dust storms, and significant snowfall in several provinces.
Starting Monday morning, strong gusts are set to sweep through various areas, with wind speeds ranging between 75 and 85 km/h. The affected provinces include Youssoufia, Chichaoua, Essaouira, Marrakech, Berrechid, El Jadida, Rehamna, Safi, and Sidi Bennour. Authorities have placed these regions under an orange alert, urging residents to exercise caution due to the potential dangers posed by these extreme conditions.
In addition to the high winds, winter is making a forceful return to higher altitudes. From Monday evening until midday Tuesday, snowfall is expected in the provinces of Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, and Midelt. Snow accumulation could range from 5 to 20 centimeters, particularly in areas above 1,900 meters in elevation.
Officials are advising travelers, especially those driving through mountainous regions, to be extremely cautious as road conditions may deteriorate. Residents in the affected areas are also being urged to remain vigilant, as strong winds could lead to falling objects and potential property damage.
With nature showing its unpredictable side, Moroccans will need to stay alert and adapt to the challenging weather ahead.
