RS Berkane have named Pedro Brito, better known as Bubista, as their new head coach on a two-year contract. The 54-year-old joins the club after leading the Cape Verde national team from March 2020 to 2024.

The club said Bubista’s appointment is part of its plan to compete for more trophies in Morocco and Africa. It also wants him to help develop young players.

“We wish the new coach every success in leading the team to achieve its goals and bring joy to the Orange fanbase in the upcoming phase.”

Bubista takes charge of one of Africa’s most successful clubs in recent years. RS Berkane won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2020 and 2022 and lifted the CAF Super Cup in 2022. The club also reached the Confederation Cup final in 2019 and 2024.

In domestic football, RS Berkane won the Throne Cup in 2018 and the 2021-22 season. The club has also been a regular top-four side in the Botola Pro.

Bubista enjoyed a successful spell with Cape Verde. He guided the Blue Sharks to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, their best-ever finish at the tournament.

Cape Verde finished top of a group that included Ghana, Egypt and Mozambique with seven points before losing to South Africa on penalties in the quarter-finals.

The national team also climbed into the world’s top 65 in the FIFA rankings during his time in charge and broke into Africa’s top 10.

The move brings Bubista back to club football after several years with the national team. Before that, he coached Cape Verdean clubs CS Mindelense and Batuque FC.

His first task will be to handle a busy schedule. RS Berkane usually play between 40 and 50 matches each season across the Botola Pro, the Throne Cup and CAF competitions.
